Introduction
The New York
branch of the Kiedaisch family was started by Johann Georg Kiedaisch from
Dettingen, Kircheim, Wuerttemberg,
Germany. He was born I believe May 20, 1856 and
married Amelia Weis who was born in New
York in the 1850’s.
Her parents were Frederich Weis and Elizabeth Weis from Prussia. I am guessing he immigrated to New York in 1872. In 1889-90 he was recorded as being in Brooklyn and was listed as a cooper for an occupation.
As a child, my mother told me that
great-grandfather came from Germany
settled in New York and had made a stop at Strasbourg before coming to the United States. She also indicated he spoke more than one
language and didn’t like talking about the past.
I have listed the first generation
of the family below so you can see where you might fit. I haven’t put more, although we are gathering
much, because some family members might not want their names on this
website. If you would like me to put
your family information on this website please let me know. Any information I receive about the New York family I will
put in “Family History And Comments” see section below. To help in understanding, when I receive
information I will put the persons name and his first generation relative, i.e.
Alan Kiedaisch (grandfather-
George).
Below is a picture of my
grandfather George Washington Kiedaisch (fifth from left with pail) there might
be other brothers in this picture but we have know way of knowing. This is clearly a baseball team and we know
it was in Brooklyn about the turn of the
century.

As we gather information on the
family we will find there are differences based on the sources we find. If we have several sources saying the same
thing then we can assume the information is correct. For example, Howard Kiedaisch (grandfather
–William) has come across different information on the founder of this branch
of the family. I have put his comments
below.

From Howard
Kiedaisch (grandfather-William) – 2-25-07 North Carolina
I found a passenger list for the ship "Argonaut"
that arrived in NY from Bremen,
Germany on Jan.
8, 1867. Listed as passengers were Georg
Kiedaisch and Johann Kiedaisch. The ages
listed for Johann (22) and Georg (23) seem to work.

From Howard
Kiedaisch (grandfather-William) – 1-16-07 North Carolina
My father's father was William E. Kiedaisch. William
was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 5, 1890. His father John
(Johann) Kiedaisch was born in Germany
(no city listed) in 1845. John immigrated to the U.S. in
1865. John married Mary Wiesse circa 1876. She was born in the U.S.
of German parents. In 1910, they lived at 409 Graham Ave. Brooklyn
with 2 of their sons Charles, 23 and
August H., 12. They had 9 children, but only 7 were living in 1910.
Joseph Kiedaisch lived on the same street, at 392 Graham, with his wife
Susie (who was born in Pennsylvania)
and there 3 year old son Joseph. Joseph and Susie were 28 years old in
1910. I assume that Joseph (the father) was a son of John and Mary.
John was a cooper and Joseph was a printer. And Charles, the 23 year old son, was an electrician's
helper. I got all of this from the 1910 census of Kings
County (Brooklyn),
NY. Your Grandfather, George, and my Grandfather, William, were not
listed. I know that William was in the army and probably didn't live in
the area. My father, Howard Gilbert, was an only child, born in Brooklyn, NY January
31, 1910 and passed away in 1976. My Mother, Ethel, passed away in
1997. William, my Grandfather, passed away at 25 years old in
1915. My Grandmother, Lulu, remarried to Ferdinand Schwerdtman and
my father was raised by his maternal Grandmother, Annie Geldmacher. I
believe that's why we lost contact with the Kiedaisches.
